Stonewall Riots
Leonardo Silva
It was on the 27th of June, 1969, that the New York police invaded a well-known gay bar in Greenwich Village — the Stonewall Inn. However, the conformation for the constant discrimination ended that night and the streets of New York erupted in a violent protest at the authorities attitude. The riots and disturbances continued for the next four nights and for that this event was known as the biggest protest for equal rights for homosexuals in history, giving birth to gay liberation. And exactly one year later, in 1970, the world got to see the first Gay Pride Parade, as a commemoration of the fight that began in Stonewall Inn.
